TREE TOP TREKKING - ZIP LINE:

FOR BOATERS

A very large lake, over 18 miles long, Rice Lake is connected to the Trent Canal System, a 380 km network of waterways that connect the Bay of Quinte, on Lake Ontario, to Georgian Bay.

Bring your kayaks or rent one of our boats and explore the reed beds and wetlands. Or alternatively, just walk the local wildlife refuges.

Rice Lake is on one of the main migratory paths and the marshes and wetlands are home to many, many species including Eagles, Herons and Ospreys.

FOR HIKERS

The local Tall Grass Savannah is being carefully preserved and can be experienced via hiking trails and tours developed in the nearby Alderville First Nation conservation area. Just west of the lake is the huge Ganaraska Forest.

TOWN OF COBOURG

Nestled in the rolling hills of Northumberland and situated on the shoreline of Lake Ontario, the historic Town of Cobourg is one of the prettiest Towns in the Province, just less than 15 minutes south of Plank Road Cottages.   Explore museums, take in a live performance theatre, join in a lakeside festival or just wander about the lovely boardwalk. Heritage homes are in abundance, as are pristine beaches, parks and hiking trails.

Cobourg Beach is a beach-lovers’ paradise. There’s a snack bar and the trees and gardens of Victoria Park, perfect for a picnic. The park in the evenings has live entertainment at the old-fashioned bandshell. There are theatre performances, movie screenings and live music. Port Hope is a remarkably picturesque community located along the shores of Lake Ontario and the Northumberland Hills, 15 minute drive from Plank Road Cottages. GANARASKA FOREST

The 11,000 acre Ganaraska Forest is one of the largest blocks of forested land in southern Ontario. Today the forest is a living example of how the principles of integrated resource management can be used to balance many different uses of forested lands on a sustainable and ecologically sound basis. The forest is home to the Ganaraska Forest Outdoor Education Centre, a weekend canteen, and public washroom and shower facilities.
